Job Overview:
The holder of this position shall support the academic progression of students as well as support staff to improve levels of literacy and develop the ability of students to research and learn independently through electronic resources or manual resources.
Responsibilities and Duties:
 Establish and implement learning resource center and policies & procedures
 Develop convenient and accessible learning resource center services
 Analyze and evaluate learning resource center services, and technology requirements
 Prepare reports related to learning resource center services, technology, resources and activities
 Provide effective access to learning resource center collections and resources
 Respond to daily on-site requests for information
 Train learning resource center users on various aspects of the center
 Implement an interlibrary loan service for both book and audiovisual materials
 Maintain proceedings for the interlibrary loan service
 Maintain circulation files, proceedings and statistics
 Acquire research resources in all fields of knowledge relevant to the university including books, periodicals, audio-visual aids, electronic resources and so forth and organize these resources according to the catalogue schemes and library Management system.
 Organize the use of research resources and formulate borrowing policies
 Provide equipment and supplies necessary for the learning resource center and organize their use
 Create bibliographic documentation of the intellectual production in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC countries in coordination with the concerned bodies in and outside the Sultanate
 Exchange information, published materials and periodicals with the libraries of the Arab and Foreign universities
 Catalog books and other classified materials available in the learning resource center
 Plan and implement training and orientation programs for the students and researchers about using the learning resource center
 Oversee matters related to the employment affairs of the staff of the learning resource center
 Set the annual plan for activities in coordination with other university units, within available resources
 Implement, review, and recommend center policies and regulations
 Monitor the performance of the department staff and make recommendations pertinent to their employment affairs to the concerned university departments
 Oversee all related matters of his/her department operationally and strategically such as employment affairs, departmental budget estimates, human resource requirements, and equipment/resource requirements,
 Prepare an annual report on the progress of department activities and submit it to the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Research and Innovation.
 Produce and follow up various instructional materials to serve the development plans of the department
 Perform any other assigned duties
Qualifications and competencies
 Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Library Science
 Fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic.
 Minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in learning resource center management at higher education Institutions
 Demonstrated ability to administer traditional overall learning resource center operations, including long-term planning and personnel.
 Experience as an effective team player with all stakeholders
 Friendly and polite appearance
 Sensitivity to Oman and GCC Culture
 Understanding of current issues and emerging technologies in academic librarianship.
 Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the internal and external community in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity
 Excellent leadership, oral interpersonal communication, team building and resource development skills
 Excellent organizational, supervisory and management skills
 Highly self-motivated, self-directed and attentive to detail
 Ability to present ideas and concepts in business-friendly and user- friendly language
 Full commitment to providing superb customer service through innovative approaches and the ability to respond to the needs of students, faculty and staff
 Experience in writing and presenting reports, briefing materials and presentations for a range of audiences including senior management
