<p><strong>Purpose</strong>:Under general supervision of the Marine Services Manager/ Senior pilot, this position ensures the safe handling of vessels in and out of the port.</p> <p>Number of Positions Supervised: 0</p> <p><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p> <p>1. Carry out pilotage services to ships in a safe and efficient manner.</p> <p>2. Supervise special towage operations as required by the marine management, </p> <p>3. Carry out STS as and when required by marine management.</p> <p>4. Establish adequate coordination and communication with relevant parties prior to carrying out any marine operation.</p> <p>5. Establish good working relationships with tugs crews, port control, and other relevant parties.</p> <p>6. Provide job training for trainee pilots.</p> <p>7. Assist in training of marine staff.</p> <p>8. Ensure relevant records and forms are maintained in accordance with company policies and procedures.</p> <p>9. Maintain efficient knowledge of local marine environment in order to provide adequate advice to masters of calling vessels.</p> <p>10. Keep good lookout on all navigation aids and immediately report any malfunctions to port control.</p> <p>11. Coordinate with GSO to check for any damage on the quay wall or mooring equipment and immediately report to port control.</p> <p>12. Provide marine management with timely advice on all matters relevant to the efficient function of the marine department and provide suggestions for improvement.</p> <p>13. Participate in all departmental functions and meetings as required by marine management.</p> <p>14. Maintain proper representation of the company.</p> <p>15. Participate in a roster system with the other Pilots to maintain cover on a 24-hour basis.</p> <p><strong>Essential Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</strong></p> <p>1. Local marine pilot requires a minimum of COP as marine pilot is mandatory and bachelor’s degree from maritime college (Optional). </p> <p>2. Valid STCW courses. </p> <p>3. Experience: Requires at least 5 years’ pilotage experience in handling large ships within harbor areas, utilizing conventional and Azimuth Stern Drive (ASD) tugs. Working knowledge of tug operations. </p> <p>4. Specialized Knowledge and Skills</p> <p>a. Must be thoroughly familiar with all types of vessels that call at port.</p> <p>b. Requires ability to analyze all marine situations. </p> <p>c. Requires advanced level of verbal and written communications skills in English.</p> <p>d. Requires ability to submit accurate and detailed reports.</p> <p>e. Requires good interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues.</p> <p>f. Must be able to motivate and lead a small team.</p> <p>g. Must be able to exercise good judgment in order to set priorities.</p> <p>h. Must have the ability to train potential pilots, tug masters and crews in all marine operations.</p> <p>i. Requires proven IT skills or aptitude.</p> <p><strong>Work Environment and Physical Demands</strong></p> <p>1. Work environment is in and around the port on various types of vessels.</p> <p>2. Must be able to work in rotating shifts, days, evenings, and nights. Requires overtime work, and work on holidays and weekends, depending upon shift schedule. </p> <p>3. Must be available at short notice to cover for absence/sick leave on an ad hoc basis. </p> <p>4. Required to observe all safety and health requirements for work areas.</p> <p>5. Must be able to take charge of all aspects of marine operations, in all weather conditions.</p> <p>6.
