Job purpose:
To lead Production Engineering studies and technical evaluations for gas assets under development and new ventures within the Commercial Function. The role focuses on production system design, deliverability assessments, development concept optimization, and production forecasting to support investment decisions, field development planning, and asset commercialization strategies. The Manager ensures that production-related assumptions are technically robust, economically optimized, and aligned with long-term asset value creation objectives.

The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Main tasks and responsibilities
Production System Concept & Development Studies
• Lead production engineering input into Concept Select, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Field Development Plan (FDP) studies.
• Develop and evaluate well and production system design options (well architecture, completion strategy, artificial lift screening where applicable).
• Assess surface and subsurface integration to ensure optimal reservoir-to-export system design.
• Conduct deliverability and network modeling studies to define production capacity scenarios.
Production Forecasting & Technical Assumptions
• Develop technically sound production forecasts and decline profiles in collaboration with Subsurface teams.
• Validate well productivity assumptions, inflow performance, and reservoir deliverability inputs.
• Provide production scenarios for economic modeling and portfolio evaluation.
• Support reserves maturation processes with defensible production modeling.
Development Optimization & Value Engineering
• Identify development optimization opportunities to enhance recovery and capital efficiency.
• Evaluate alternative development concepts, phasing strategies, and infrastructure sizing.
• Conduct sensitivity analyses on well count, spacing, timing, and production plateau strategies.
• Support value engineering initiatives to improve project economics prior to FID.
Commercial & Economic Integration
• Provide production engineering inputs for economic evaluations, including capex profiling and operating strategy assumptions.
• Ensure alignment between production strategies and gas sales agreements, capacity commitments, and commercialization plans.
• Support investment memoranda and technical justification for new venture approvals.
• Participate in asset screening and ranking exercises from a production feasibility perspective.
Risk & Uncertainty Management
• Identify technical risks affecting production performance, ramp-up timing, and recovery.
• Conduct scenario and probabilistic analysis on production uncertainties.
• Define mitigation strategies to reduce subsurface and development risks prior to sanction.
Governance & Technical Assurance
• Establish production engineering standards, modeling workflows, and study assurance processes.
• Review and validate production studies performed by consultants or partners.
• Ensure compliance with company technical authority frameworks and industry best practices.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Act as the production engineering focal point within Commercial, interfacing with Geoscience, Reservoir Engineering, Economics, Facilities, and Drilling teams.
• Represent production engineering matters in JV technical committees and partner reviews.
• Build internal capability in production modeling and integrated asset studies.

Education requirements Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or equivalent, MSc Degree (preferred)

Language requirements: Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience:
• 8+ years’ experience in Production/Petroleum and Reservoir Engineering within Oil & Gas industry.
• Experience in various subsurface fields and different petroleum environments.
• Experience in working with integrated development programs across various settings and preferably with a diversity of assets (both local and international).
• Experience in handling technical interface with commercial workflows and transactions.
• Experience in well & reservoir management, production operations and completion procedures.
• Experience in working with multi-disciplinary team
• Experience in using PETEX IPM suite of tools is an advantage
• Experience in tight gas reservoirs is a “plus”.
• Has participated or contributed to technical reviews, audits and preparation of Field Development Plans Soft:
• Leading multidisciplinary integrated teams and contribution to exploration opportunity risking and ranking.
• Self-starter with the ability to multi task while maintaining priorities
• Must be able to work under pressure and provide input in short project timelines
• Possess organizational skills
• Good presentation and communication skills, written and verbal
