Job Title: Project Engineer - Section: Project Management -Department: Development - Reports to: Project Manager Purpose: The main purpose of the project engineer is to assist in the development, design & construction management, and coordination with operators and S&M team of SDIC’s projects in Oman, and to protect the interests of the company and other SDIC’s partners from losses, claims, and liabilities. Responsibilities: Strategic Contribution: - Assist the Project Manager with the plan for the construction of projects. - Assist in the development of cost estimates of assigned projects. - Contribute to the preparation of the project budget and monitor financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues and areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified - Implement the department policies, procedures, and control, covering all areas of development so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service. People: - Coordinate with other team members - Coach trainees - Interact with other departments teams for the sake of managing the assigned projects. Operational: - Ensure effective management of relationships with all internal and external entities, such as SDIC business units, clients, hotel operators, vendors, suppliers, contractors, service providers, etc. with the highest standards of business ethics, to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered most effectively. - Assist with preparing the job start-up and close-out checklists for various construction packages. - Assist to prepare the detailed project construction progress schedule in coordination with the Project Manager, contractors, and consultants and update regularly. - Ensure tracking of drawings, contract documents, submittals, requests for information, change orders and material delivery logs during the project. - Assist the Project Manager in the development of the monthly job status report and participate in the preparation of the project cost analysis. - Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, daily correspondence, drawings, and other project-related documents. - Assist in expediting payment and processing of invoices and prompt payment to the consultants/contractors for amounts due to them. - Keep the Head of Development fully informed in a timely fashion concerning all problem areas on the project. - Stimulate subordinates and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes, and practices considering ‘international leading practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction, and productivity improvement. - Perform other related duties or assignments as directed. Key Performance Indicators: - Timeliness of reporting and documentation. - Quality of reports created. - Identification of delays and cost overruns. Authorities: - As per the Development Unit’s Manual of Authority and Policies and Procedures. Education & Experience: - Bachelor’s degree in engineering. - A minimum of 2 years of experience in development of tourism-related projects. - Professional Certificate in construction or project management preferable.
