Job Description – Discipline Head: Civil

Role & Responsibilities

• Single point responsibility for Civil Engineering design services in relation to Power and associated infrastructure.
• Single point responsibility for integrity and quality of the civil discipline work output.
• To represent Company when interfacing with Client Civil specialists.
• To coordinate and control the civil engineering and drafting activities so as to ensure efficient and economical design solutions whilst maintaining the delivery schedule.
• To organize, manage, assign and control civil engineering personnel.
• To manage the civil discipline technological activities, quality requirements and human resource development aspects.
• To mentor and develop less experienced civil engineering personnel.
• To review third party civil design work
• To identify potential applications for new technologies.

Qualifications

• Degree holder (BSc/MSc/BEng in Civil Engineering)

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

• Must have a minimum of 15 years engineering experience in having developed a recognized career path in civil activities, of which a minimum of 5 years held in a senior engineering position.
• Must be fluent in written and spoken English with good technical skills applied to producing reports, consequently must be computer literate in use of MS Office applications, Lotus Notes and STAAD.
• Must have experience of working within an ISO 9001 QA environment.
• Good knowledge of applicable design standards and codes gained from a design office environment is essential.
• Field experience in construction and commissioning would be advantageous.
• Must be able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility both as an individual and as a strong team player, coupled with excellent interpersonal skills in order to delegate and motivate the discipline team.
• Civil engineering experience applied to heavy rotating and static equipment foundations and piling, substation buildings, facilities, infrastructure, underground services, steel structures, water treatment facilities, roads, architectural layouts, small to medium hydro activities, vendor civil drawings and Brownfield construction scopes.
