Job DescriptionRoles & ResponsibilitiesJOB DESCRIPTIONJob Purpose:To lead and manage all emergency response and preparedness functions at the mine, ensuring effective systems, trained personnel, and operational readiness at all times. The role is accountable for emergency response planning, team leadership, equipment readiness, and compliance with safety standards. Additionally, the role oversees site security functions to ensure controlled access and adherence to company procedures. Works closely with the HSE Manager to continuously improve emergency response systems and ensure alignment with regulatory requirements.Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:Lead and manage all emergency response functions for the mine.Fire Marshal for surface and underground.Relieving MO if appointed MO is on vacation.Oversee batch plant operations and manage stock levels post-handover.Collaborate with the HSE Manager to develop and improve emergency response procedures.Develop and deliver training programs for emergency response teams and all employees and ensure proper maintenance and operational readiness of all emergency response equipment and vehicles.Oversee on site security including access control, alcohol testing, searching of vehicles, waybill confirmation.Provide ad hoc support to plant emergency response programs as required.Principal Challenges:Managing and coordinating emergency response teams in high-risk, time-critical situations.Ensuring continuous readiness and reliability of emergency equipment under demanding operating conditions.Maintaining a high level of emergency preparedness across all personnel through effective training and drills.Balancing emergency response responsibilities with security oversight and operational support functions.Enforcing strict security and compliance measures in a dynamic mining environment.Responding effectively to unpredictable underground and surface emergencies.Ensuring alignment of emergency procedures with regulatory and company standards.Managing resource availability and team mobilization during emergencies.Driving continuous improvement in emergency response systems and procedures.Maintaining accurate reporting, audits, and documentation under operational pressure.Minimum Academic / Professional Qualification:Secondary School Certificate (Grade 12).Accredited Mine Overseer Certificate.Certification as a Mine Rescue Services (MRS) Proto Team Member.Accredited Firefighting / Fire Marshal Certification.Valid First Aid and Emergency Response Certification.Minimum Work Experience:Minimum 10 years’ experience as a Mine Overseer in underground mining.At least 5 years’ experience as an active MRS Proto Team member.Proven experience in emergency response coordination and incident management.Experience in leading and training emergency response teams.Experience in conducting drills, audits, and evacuation exercises.Experience in emergency equipment maintenance and readiness.Exposure to mine security operations (access control, searches, compliance).Experience in risk assessment and safety management systems.Experience in batch plant / stock management.
