Lab Technician (Occupational Health and Safety)

The University Lab Technician is responsible for the maintenance and operation of laboratory equipment, as well as the preparation of materials for laboratory classes. The technician will work closely with faculty members to ensure that laboratory experience is safe, efficient and effective for students.
• Prepare laboratory equipment, tools, and materials for practical classes and demonstrations.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and safety compliance.
• Responsible for reviewing and monitor the health and safety hazards of all CoHS program laboratories
• Assist faculty members during laboratory sessions, simulations, and student projects.
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and handling of chemicals, safety kits, and instruments.
• Support faculty in planning and delivery of laboratory-based learning activities.
• Assist in conducting experiments related to ergonomics, industrial hygiene, risk assessment, and safety management.
• Support data collection, documentation, and preparation of laboratory reports.
• Help in setting up simulation-based training activities and demonstrations.
• Assist in student research projects and final-year practical work.
• Support all the duties associated with the examinations
• Install, calibrate, and maintain OHS monitoring equipment (e.g., gas detectors, noise meters, heat stress monitors).
• Conduct routine inspection and preventive maintenance of laboratory instruments.
• Maintain equipment usage logs and maintenance records.
• Report faults and coordinate repair or replacement with vendors.
• Implement laboratory safety procedures and emergency preparedness protocols.
• Ensure availability and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Conduct safety briefings for students before laboratory activities.
• Monitor compliance with occupational safety regulations and institutional policies.
• Maintain inventory of laboratory consumables and equipment.
• Prepare purchase requests and coordinate procurement processes.
• Keep updated records of laboratory assets, chemicals, and safety materials.
• Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university/institution in the field of specialization.
• At least 2-3 yrs. of experience in the field of specialization.
• Outstanding organizing and detail-oriented skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• The capacity to function both alone and as a part of a team.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA certifications or equivalent
Preference:
• Omani only.
• Post-graduate specialization diploma/certificate.
• Teaching experience, particularly in similar settings.
• Experience with maintaining inventory and supplies.
• Pass the licensure exam of Oman (healthcare specializations only).

• مساعدة أعضاء هيئة التدريس أثناء الجلسات العملية وأنشطة المحاكاة ومشاريع الطلبة.
• ضمان التخزين الصحيح ووضع الملصقات والتعامل الآمن مع المواد الكيميائية ومعدات السلامة والأجهزة.
• دعم أعضاء هيئة التدريس في تخطيط وتنفيذ أنشطة التعلم القائمة على المختبر.
• المساهمة في تنفيذ التجارب المتعلقة بعلم بيئة العمل (Ergonomics)، والصحة الصناعية، وتقييم المخاطر، وإدارة السلامة.
• دعم جمع البيانات وتوثيقها وإعداد التقارير المخبرية.
• المساعدة في إعداد وتنفيذ أنشطة التدريب القائمة على المحاكاة.
• دعم مشاريع الطلبة البحثية وأعمال السنة النهائية التطبيقية.
• المساهمة في المهام المرتبطة بالاختبارات.
• تركيب ومعايرة وصيانة أجهزة مراقبة الصحة والسلامة المهنية (مثل: كواشف الغازات، وأجهزة قياس الضوضاء، وأجهزة قياس الإجهاد الحراري).
• إجراء الفحوصات الدورية والصيانة الوقائية لأجهزة المختبر.
• الحفاظ على سجلات استخدام الأجهزة وسجلات الصيانة.
• الإبلاغ عن الأعطال والتنسيق مع الدوائر لإصلاح أو استبدال المعدات.
• تطبيق إجراءات السلامة في المختبر وخطط الاستجابة للطوارئ.
• ضمان توفر معدات الوقاية الشخصية (PPE) واستخدامها بشكل صحيح.
• تقديم إرشادات السلامة للطلبة قبل بدء الأنشطة المخبرية.
• متابعة الالتزام بلوائح السلامة المهنية والسياسات المؤسسية.
• إدارة جرد المواد الاستهلاكية والمعدات في المختبر.
• إعداد طلبات الشراء والتنسيق مع الجهات المختصة لإجراءات التوريد.
• الحفاظ على سجلات محدثة لموجودات المختبر والمواد الكيميائية ومعدات السلامة.
• درجة البكالوريوس من جامعة أو مؤسسة معترف بها في مجال التخصص.
• خبرة لا تقل عن 2–3 سنوات في مجال التخصص.
• مهارات تنظيمية عالية ودقة في التفاصيل.
• مهارات تواصل وعلاقات شخصية ممتازة.
• القدرة على العمل بشكل مستقل وكجزء من الفريق.
• مهارات قوية في استخدام الحاسوب، بما في ذلك إجادة برامج Microsoft Office.
• مهارات تحليلية وتفكير نقدي متقدم.
• شهادات مهنية مثل NEBOSH / IOSH / OSHA أو ما يعادلها.
يفضل:
• للعُمانيين فقط.
• دبلوم أو شهادة تخصص بعد البكالوريوس.
• خبرة في التدريس، خصوصًا في مؤسسات تعليمية مشابهة.
• خبرة في إدارة المخزون والمستلزمات المختبرية.
• اجتياز اختبار الترخيص في سلطنة عُمان (للتخصصات الصحية فقط).
